Ingredient Glossary

Abyssinian Oil - full of excellent moisturizing and anti-aging properties. It can be easily absorbed into the skin’s epidermal tissue, where it works to smooth wrinkles and nourish dry, dehydrated skin. It does all of this without leaving behind a greasy residue like other, similar, oils. It also acts as an effective barrier for your skin to help retain its moisture and keep it from drying out.

Aloe Leaf Extract - an anti-inflammatory extract that is high in antioxidants & vitamins A & C.

Argan Oil - high in oleic acid, and linoleic acid which are both essential to amazing looking skin!

Avocado Oil - high in vitamins A, D & E, and has beta carotene, protein, lecithin, fatty acids this powerhouse oil is great for skin that needs love and attention which is why we use it in our Rocky Mountain Collection Soaps, our Body Balm, and our Lip Balm!

Beeswax - used in our lip balm and body balms to help hydrate and lock in moisture with its wax esters. It helps provide a barrier so quick absorbing oils can soak into the skin, and create moisture while the beeswax helps hold it in. 

BTMS - an excellent cationic self-emulsifier and conditioner for both hair and skin care. It is naturally derived from Colza oil and is noted for its exceptional mildness. BTMS Conditioning Emulsifier offers innovative properties to formulations as both a mild primary emulsifier and an excellent conditioning agent.

Buttermilk Powder - used in our loofah soap for skin softening, bubbly lather benefits.

Calendula Extract - offers soothing feelings and is ideal for sensitive skin that needs love and attention. 

Castor Oil - Used in our soaps to create healthy big bubbles, and in our lip balm, this oils is fabulous and the only oil that has ricinoleic acid which is known to help increase anti-inflammatory benefits, and create a really amazing moisturizing experience! 

Cetyl Alcohol - an organic compound that is classified as a fatty alcohol. Fatty alcohols are a hybrid between alcohols and fatty acids or oils. There is often a misconception that because it has alcohol in its name that cetyl alcohol is drying to the skin. The reality is actually the opposite. Cetyl alcohol helps to protect the skin from allergens, bacteria and moisture loss and improves the texture of products.

Citric Acid - is a main ingredient in our Bath Bombs and Shower Tabs.  It when mixed with Baking Soda, & Water creates the fizzing action! Without citric acid it would not fizz! Pretty cool right?!

Cocamidopropyl Betaine -derived from coconut oil - this aids in creating bubbles in our bath bombs.

Cocoa Butter - is a hydrator that is high in fatty acids and is excellent at moisturizing skin. 

Coconut Oil - is high in lauric acid, and contains some vitamin E, it is high in fat content which makes for a good moisturizer, and an amazing bar of soap!  Coconut oil is what gives soap big bold bubbles and lather!

Corn Starch - helps stabilize and harden formulations

Cream of Tartar - helps stabilize and harden formulations

Daikon Seed Oil - natural emollient that adds strength and shine to hair and improves skin barrier function

Essential Oils - therapeutic grade - if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, please ask your doctor before using essential oils.

Epsom Salt - Helps relieve inflammation, and is high in magnesium 

Evening Primrose Oil - has anti-inflammatory properties and is highly moisturizing. 

Fractionated Coconut Oil - liquid form coconut oil, where the medium chain triglycerides are retained. 

Glycerin - used in our loofah soaps, acts as a humectant drawing moisture into the skin

Honey - used in our loofah soaps, its a great moisturizer!

Jojoba Oil - is a wax ester, this mimics the skins sebum, and is an excellent moisture giving oil! Packed full with Vitamins, A, D & E with minerals chromium, cooper and zinc, with Omega fatty Acids 6 and 9. This is one of our favorite skin oils!

Kaolin Clay - adds slip and glide to soaps, and is a hardener in our bath bombs, and shower tabs. 

Lanolin - used in our body balm. It is an emollient wax derived from sheep's wool (avoid if allergic to wool) it is intensely moisturizing and it works wonders for the surface of chapped and cracked skin by sealing in moisture and providing a barrier across the skin.  

Macadamia Nut Oil - packed with nourishing fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants that moisturize and strengthen hair strands, reduce frizz, promote scalp health, and improve overall hair health.

Mango Butter - High in Vitamins A, B6, and E this nutrient dense oil is also non-comedogenic, which is means no clogged pores in our body balm!

Mica - a mineral mica is made from the same type of mica found in mineral makeup brands & eyeshadows, we use this small micron mica to add color to our soaps. 

Oatmeal Extract - this soothing to dry skin ingredient is found in our loofah soap.

Olive Oil - high in oleic acid, vitamins E & K and rich in omega 6 and 3 fatty acids. 

Optiphen - Paraben & Formaldehyde Free preservative that provides broad spectrum preservation against bacteria, yeast, and mold. 

Orchid Flower Extract disbursed in Canola Oil - contains antioxidants and humectant properties which help retain moisture levels, as well as soothe and smooth the complexion

Palm Oil - Sustainable (always!!!) - we always use sustainable palm oil, what that means is, as soon as harvest is done, the farmers are replenishing and replanting, and not disturbing important ecosystems, which is a great thing because palm oil has many benefits for soap, beyond making a creamy, hard long lasting bar!  It's also high in vitamins A & E, and high in free radicals. Why do we continue to use Palm Oil? (dare I say we still eat Nutella® too?) It's because there are ecosystems that need Palm plants to get planted, and if the need rises for other types of harvests, they'll replant old Palm fields with other oil producing plants. So for now its the best choice to maintain current Palm harvests, and stop deforestation, and ensure that the animals that live in those regions are safe.  Our palm oil also comes from Columbia which 

Panthenol -  Vitamin B5 

Phthalate Free Fragrance - skin safe scents created as close to nature as possible, and free of harmful chemicals.

Polysorbate 80 - an emulsifier used in our bath bombs and shower steamers.  This ingredient allows the water and oil molecules to bind together, this is important when use in the shower and bath because it reduces the slippery feeling that the coconut oil, and essential oils give when used without Poly80.  You'll find Poly80 in eye drops, pickles, and many other household products. 

Propylene Glycol- used in our loofah soaps, its good for skin hydration and helps to alleviate skin dryness & dull appearance.

Safflower Oil - high in linoleic acid, vitamin A & E, and omega 6 and 3 fatty acids. 

Shea Butter - has many fatty acids many linoleic, oleic, palmitic, stearic, as well as omega 3 fatty acids. 

Sodium Bicarbonate - Also know as Baking Soda - this is a water softener and a main ingredient in our Bath Bombs and Shower Steamers, when mixed with citric acid and water it creates a fizzing action!

Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate - Natural Surfactant Used for Making Bubbles

Sodium Hydroxide - also known as Lye. It is a primary ingredient in ANY soap product, you cannot have soap without lye - otherwise they're lying and it's a detergent based cleanser. We use 100% food grade lye in our soap products, and yes lye is used to balance pH in many products, and some factories use it as a fruit and veggie wash. If you're wondering why our soap ingredients say "saponified oils" instead of sodium hydroxide, it's basically the same thing, once oils and lye mix together, the result is saponified oils, no lye is left in the finished product!

Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate - naturally derived from coconut & palm oils - this aids in creating bubbles in our bath bombs

Sorbitol - used in our loofah soaps, it helps aid lather, and similar to glycerin acts as a humectant.

Stearic Acid - used in our loofah soaps, attracts dirt and grime, and without stripping your skin of its outer layer of moisture it helps remove the dirt and grime.

Sugar - used in our sugar scrubs as a natural exfoliator. 

Sunflower Oil -  non-comedogenic oil that is high in oleic, and linoleic acid and vitamin E and is used as a quick absorbing oil in our body balm. 

Tapioca Starch- used in our body balm to aid absorption and lessen feeling of stickiness on application.  

Titanium Dioxide - creates a lovely white color in some of our soaps and loofah soaps.
